Bocconcino Mayfair: Among Mayfair restaurants for authentic Italian dining.
Bocconcino is one of Mayfair’s most established Italian restaurants…
We have been at 19 Berkeley Street since the brand opened, a few minutes’ walk from Green Park station and a short walk from Bond Street and Piccadilly. The restaurant is set across two floors and is open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Among the Italian restaurants in Mayfair, Bocconcino is known for its regional Italian menu, its Italian-led wine list of over 300 bottles, and the live music programme on the lower ground floor.
The restaurant takes inspiration from the beautiful climes of Italy, bringing authentic Italian flavours and first-class service to two stunning spaces. Mayfair as an area has its share of Italian restaurants, but Bocconcino is the one most regulars return to for a long lunch with wine, a quiet anniversary dinner, or a private event in the lower ground floor rooms. We see the same faces from the surrounding offices for business lunches, the same neighbours for Saturday brunch, and the same families for birthdays and Christmas. That repeat custom is what tells us we are doing the right things.
Step into Bocconcino Mayfair: two spaces under one roof
Ground floor: fine dining with theatrical service
The ground floor is the fine dining space of the two, with a theatrical style of service. Inspired by the dining rooms found throughout Italy, the room has a romantic atmosphere, with the open-fire pizza oven visible from most tables and the pasta station behind glass. The seating is arranged for couples and small groups, and the noise level stays comfortable through service. This is the right floor for lunch, an early dinner, or a quieter evening over a bottle of wine.
Lower ground floor: a more intimate setting with live music
The lower ground floor takes the mood up a notch. The lighting is softer, the seating is set for slightly longer dinners, and a live music programme runs on this floor. This is the floor most regulars choose for occasion dining: anniversaries, birthdays, milestone celebrations and corporate dinners. The private dining rooms are also on this floor, with capacity for groups from a small dinner party up to larger seated events.
Our menu: regional Italian cuisine from Tuscany to Napoli
Bocconcino celebrates the ingredients, flavours and traditions of Italy, balanced with a touch of contemporary flair. Our à la carte menu takes inspiration from the diverse regions of Italy: from Tuscany to Rome, Sicily to Napoli, the birthplace of Head Chef Marco Corsica. Marco brings extensive knowledge of authentic Italian cooking, drawing on his childhood memories from the Mediterranean coast, combined with his inventiveness to deliver a menu that rings true to the authenticity of his home country. The kitchen is centred around fresh seafood, dry-aged meats, and traditional open-fire cooked pizzas.
The pasta is hand-rolled in-house every morning. The pizza is Roman-style, baked in front of guests on the open-fire oven. The antipasti selection is generous and seasonal: cured meats, parmigiana, crudo plates, and warmer sharing dishes in winter. The mains run from whole sea bass and Sicilian-style octopus through to dry-aged steak and slow-cooked osso buco. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are integrated into the menu rather than separated, and the kitchen accommodates allergies and dietary requirements as a matter of course.
Specials change with the seasons. In the autumn the truffle menu runs alongside the standard à la carte. In late summer there are Sicilian dishes that lean into the seafood and tomato traditions of the south. Winter brings heavier braises and more substantial pasta. The kitchen team also runs occasional tasting menus and sommelier dinners that open up the more interesting parts of the cellar to a smaller group of guests.
Our wine: 300+ bottles, with a focus on Italy
Our 300-plus wine selection has been curated with the aim of offering a rich variety from all regions of Italy, with a focus on Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello, Amarone and Super Tuscan wines. The rest of the world is also represented on our wine list, with particular attention to our French selection and a smaller showcase of producers from Spain, California and Argentina for guests who prefer to drink outside Italy.
Our Head Sommelier looks to represent the most interesting indigenous varieties alongside the well-known producers, highlighting organic and biodynamic wines to showcase different terroirs’ offerings. The list is built to be useful: it has the recognisable bottles for guests who know what they want, and it has the depth to offer something interesting if you ask. By-the-glass and Coravin options run from accessible to serious, and the sommelier team is available throughout service to advise on pairings, particularly for the tasting menus and the larger private dining bookings.
Brunch, lunch and dinner at Bocconcino Mayfair
Mayfair runs a Saturday bottomless brunch with live music (Brunch Esclusivo) and a Sunday buffet brunch (Il Grande) which leans into the seafood side of the menu. The set lunch menu is available on weekdays for guests on a business lunch schedule, with two and three-course options. Dinner runs every evening, with last orders extending later on Fridays and Saturdays. The kitchen does not close between lunch and dinner during the week, so guests arriving outside conventional service times are not turned away.
Private dining and events in Mayfair
The lower ground floor at Bocconcino Mayfair has dedicated private dining rooms, used regularly for corporate dinners, birthdays, anniversaries and family events. The rooms can be combined for larger parties or used independently for smaller dinners. The events team works with hosts on bespoke menus, wine pairings and audio-visual setups. Reservations for the private rooms are taken directly through the events page, and minimum spend levels apply at peak times.
Mayfair, Italian, and what makes Bocconcino different
Mayfair is well served for restaurants, and Bocconcino sits among the area’s longer-established Italian dining rooms. What separates the restaurant is the combination of three things. The first is the cooking: regional, honest, and led by a chef who grew up cooking the food himself. The second is the wine list: serious without being intimidating, and curated by a sommelier team that wants you to drink something you’ll remember. The third is the building itself: the two floors give the restaurant two clear identities, the fine dining experience with theatrical service upstairs and the more music-led space downstairs, and guests can choose which one they want depending on the occasion.
For a looser, weekend-leaning version of the same kitchen, the sister venue Bocconcino Soho on Great Marlborough Street runs the same regional Italian menu in a more contemporary setting with a resident DJ programme on Friday and Saturday nights.
